AirPods Pro will receive a new “hearing aid mode” feature with the release of iOS 18 later this year. This feature will provide support for a hearing aid-like function. Apple has previously introduced the Conversation Boost feature for AirPods Pro, which enhances the volume and clarity of nearby voices. The distinction between hearing aids and Personal sound amplification products (PSAPs) is crucial. Unlike hearing aids, PSAPs are not intended to treat hearing impairments and do not require FDA clearance. It remains uncertain if Apple will need FDA approval to market AirPods Pro with the rumored “hearing aid mode.” The release of iOS 18, considered a significant update, is anticipated to coincide with the launch of the iPhone 16 series in September.
