Binance announced that it will suspend NGN services in response to increased regulatory scrutiny in Nigeria. Users are advised to withdraw, trade, or convert their NGN assets into cryptocurrency by March 7. Any remaining NGN balances will be converted to USDT on March 8. The Central Bank of Nigeria claimed that Binance facilitated illicit flows amounting to $26 billion. Two Binance officials were reportedly detained in Nigeria for operating illegally. There are allegations of currency manipulation, tax evasion, and illegal activities, although formal charges have not yet been brought. Nigeria has requested compensation from Binance, but both parties denied the allegations. The legal conflict between Nigeria and Binance is ongoing, with Nigerian parliament threatening to issue an arrest warrant for Binance executives and summoning CEO Richard Teng for investigations into money laundering and terror financing suspicions.
